Geneva, 04 May (HS). The World Health Organization (WHO) says it has fired a scientist accused of sexual misconduct who led a high-level UN health agency delegation to China two years ago.

The delegation went to China to investigate the origin of the corona virus pandemic. The health agency said Peter Ben Embarek was sacked last year.

Peter Ben Embarek was fired following findings of sexual misconduct against him and the associated disciplinary process, spokeswoman Marcia Poole said in an email. He said the findings relate to allegations relating to 2015 and 2017, which were first received by the WHO investigative team in 2018. He said other allegations could not be fully investigated as the victims did not want to be involved in the investigation process. Ben Embarek did not immediately respond to calls or text messages made to his mobile phone on Thursday.
