New Delhi: The round of consultations in the Congress to elect the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Karnataka continued on Wednesday, although the party has not been able to reach any concrete result yet. The party said that a decision regarding the Chief Minister is possible in a day or two and a new government will be formed in the state within the next 48 to 72 hours. In the midst of doubts about the Chief Minister, the party has advised its leaders to stay away from rhetoric, saying that if they do so, it will be considered indiscipline and action will be taken.

Both the CM claimants are prohibited from giving statements in the media.

Party general secretary and in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala tweeted, “I have advised all Congress leaders not to make statements on the leadership issue. Any statement made without permission will be treated as indiscipline and action will be taken accordingly.”

Rahul Gandhi met Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar separately

Both the leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, who are considered strong contenders for the post of Chief Minister, held separate meetings with former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. Congress publicly denied this after the news regarding Siddaramaiah being agreed upon for the Chief Minister’s post and Shivakumar’s displeasure appeared in the media. At the same time, party general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala said that there is no need to pay attention to the ‘rumours being spread by the Bharatiya Janata Party’, as no decision has been taken so far. He said that by passing a resolution in the Legislature Party meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was authorized to take the decision and in such a situation, he would take the decision on the basis of consensus and solidarity.
