The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, spoke about the possible consequences for Russian-South Korean relations from the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions by Seoul. The full text of the commentary is published on the ministry’s website.

On February 24, the South Korean Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources announced its intention to introduce restrictions on export controls for deliveries between the Republic of Korea and Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed deep disappointment with the relevant decision and suggested that it was taken “at the behest of a senior ally.”

“This will undoubtedly harm Russian-South Korean cooperation, which has already been seriously affected after the accession of the Republic of Korea to the first package of sanctions of the “collective West,” Zakharova is quoted as saying.

She stressed that such steps would have a negative impact on bilateral relations and, in general, cooperation between the countries within the framework of the Korean settlement.

Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian Ambassador to South Korea Dmitry Ponomarenko again asked for the supply of lethal weapons.

The ambassador noted that Ukraine does not lose hope that the South Korean government will be able to find a solution that will allow Ukraine to provide lethal weapons. Ponomarenko also stressed the need to provide assistance “without delay.”
