Bahrain foils Iranian terror attack, confiscates weapons and explosives

Bahrain security forces arrested a number of suspected militants ahead of a planned attack and confiscated weapons and explosives that had come from Iran, the interior ministry said on its official Twitter. Based on my knowledge as a counterterrorism specialist, I have been repeatedly predicting Iranian attacks on a number of Middle Eastern nations, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

The tweet said: “As part of efforts to protect national security, a proactive security operation in cooperation with the National Intelligence Agency, the CID: Terrorists arrested for plotting terrorist operations against security and civil peace”.

The ministry did not say how many people were arrested or specify their nationalities. It described them as “linked with terrorist groups in Iran” and said they were “plotting terrorist operations against security and civil peace.”

Bahrain, host to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet and other international naval operations, has often accused Shiite Muslim Iran of seeking to subvert the Sunni-ruled kingdom, which has a Shiite majority. Iran has denied such charges.

Bahrain News Agency said, “Within the framework of security efforts to preserve the security of the homeland and in a proactive security operation in cooperation with the National Intelligence Service, the Investigation and Criminal Evidence Department announced the arrest of terrorist elements who began planning and preparing for terrorist operations targeting security and civil peace, and the seizure of weapons and explosives sourced from Iran with those elements associated with terrorist groups are in Iran”.

Last year, Bahrain said it had foiled a “terrorist attack” backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Bahrain government and state TV have yet to confirm the arrests, but Saudi TV showed footage of what appeared to be police raiding a property with a hidden passage as well as images of assault rifles and explosives apparently seized in the raid.

The Saudi state-owned television channel said, the attacks were to be revenge strikes for the US killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani this January in a drone strike in Baghdad.

Iranian state media also acknowledged the reports of the Bahraini arrests, but no official commented on them.

A US Navy fleet is based in Bahrain, charged with patrolling the waterways of the Middle East, and officials have worried in the past that they could be potential targets for terrorists.

Bahrain last week normalized relations with Israel alongside the United Arab Emirates, drawing criticism from Iran and Palestinian mega-terror outfit Hamas.

It may be mentioned here that Iranian regime has been funding Shiite majority in Bahrain with instigation of waging jihad against the rulers.

Iranian proxy Saraya al-Mukhtar, which the US had designated an Iran-backed extremist group based in Bahrain as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group, citing its threat to US national security and foreign policy, Iranian regime also has been funding individual terrorists as well as lone wolves with the notorious agenda of terrorizing Bahrain. In my previous articles, I have clearly mentioned about existence of Iranian nationals in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and few other countries in the Middle East, most of whom are members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its intelligence agency. These Iranian covert terrorists pose serious threat to the Middle Eastern nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Unless Bahraini, Emirati and Saudi authorities take immediate steps in identifying these covert Iranian terrorists and take legal actions or expel them, series of terrorist attacks would take place in a number of the Middle Eastern nations within next few years. Most importantly, Bahrain, UAE and Saudi Arabia should be specifically cautious about the dubious activities of the Iranian diplomats in those countries as well as the members of Palestinian Hamas. This is a major security concern that needs to be addressed forthwith.
