Biden’s adviser unwilling to designating Houthi jihadists

Members of the Biden administration are already showing alarming signs favoring radical Islamic terrorists, while they also are committed in lifting sanctions of Iran as well as Hamas and Palestinian terror-linked entities. According to US President Joe Biden’s nominee for National Security Adviser, Trump administration’s decision to classify Yemeni Houthi jihadists as terrorists will “only cause more suffering” for the people of the war-torn nation.

Designating the Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, a terrorist group is expected to halt many transactions with Houthi authorities, including bank transfers, payments for medical personnel and for food and fuel, due to fears of US prosecution.

“Houthi commanders need to be held accountable, but designating the whole organization will only inflict more suffering on Yemeni people and impede diplomacy critical to end the war,” Biden’s pick for national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, tweeted.

The Trump administration’s decision has had a mixed reception in Yemen, with some supporters of Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi accusing UN officials opposed to the terrorism designation of taking the side of the Houthis.

Biden plans to end US assistance to Saudi-led coalition in Yemen

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and lots of influential figures in the administration are in favor or reversing Trump administration’s decision to designate Yemen’s radical Islamic Houthi jihadists as a foreign terrorist organization.

Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, slammed Sunday’s announcement by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo – calling it “short-sighted” and “a death sentence” for millions of Yemenis reeling from years of war.

“It will cut off humanitarian aid, make peace talks nearly impossible, and empower Iran. Biden should reverse this policy on day one,” Murphy said on Twitter on Monday.

Congressman Gregory Meeks, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also denounced the designation and said it “endangers the lives of the Yemeni people”.

“The Trump Administration has yet to learn that they can’t sanction their way out of a civil war,” Meeks said in a statement.

Pompeo announced late on Sunday that he intended to notify Congress of the Trump administration’s decision to list the Houthis as an FTO, and added that he plans to blacklist three Houthi leaders – Abdul Malik al-Houthi, Abd al-Khaliq Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and Abdullah Yahya al-Hakim – as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT).

The State Department said the decision was made to crack down on Iranian influence in Yemen, with Washington seeing the Houthi group as being backed by Tehran.

While Trump has vetoed multiple congressional efforts to end the US support for Yemen, Biden has repeatedly said he plans on ending Washington’s assistance to the Saudi-led coalition.

Pro-Iran Biden administration

From statements made by President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and other key figures in the administration, it is clearly understood that the new administration in Washington is committed in playing role favorable to Iran in multiple ways. Biden’s decision to re-enter into nuclear deal with Iran would only result in lifting of sanctions imposed by the Trump administration, which ultimately will help Iran in enhancing its hostility and terrorist activities in the Middle East and the world.

Now, Biden administration also shows determination in changing Trump’s decision of designating Houthi jihadists as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) – meaning, here again, Biden wants to grant free hand to Iran in playing foul in Yemen.

President Biden also wants to withdraw from assistance to the Saudi-led coalition – meaning, in other words, he will let Iran increase its hostility in the region. The ultimate result of such suicidal decision will put Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates as well as Saudi Arabia under serious threats of terrorist attacks of Iran.
