Earlier this week, local police in Siliguri arrested Mohammed Akhtar Hussain in order to interrogate him regarding the murder of the Hindu women. We have reported on numerous accounts of Hindu women being deceived into relationships by Muslim men and subsequently forced into religious conversions, condemned to living a hellish life, if not to being brutally murdered by the “beloved.” But the case of the double murders that we are covering today will send chills down your spine.

On August 31, police found a dead body of a woman lying near the rail gate of Matigara, a rural area in Siliguri, West Bengal. It appeared to be a case of homicide; following investigations, the police identified the diseased as a local married woman, Ankita Maity. Not surprisingly, the husband and his family became the first suspects in the murder case, and were detained by the police. But during the investigation, the police discovered that Ankita had recently been in a relationship with a local Muslim man, Mohammed Akhtar Hussain. Reportedly, Hussain is married and has children.

Earlier this week, local police in Siliguri arrested Mohammed Akhtar Hussain in order to interrogate him regarding the murder of the Hindu woman. But what came out of the interrogations was unexpected and petrifying on multiple levels. Not only did Hussain admit to killing Ankita Maity, but he also revealed that this was not his first murder.

Roughly three or four months ago, Hussain had killed another Hindu woman, Sucheta Mandal, after having a brief affair with her. He further added that although he had lured both the women into romantic associations with him, he had a wife back home. When the wife learned about his rendezvouses outside their home, he decided to get rid of both of his “lovers”.

After slaughtering Sucheta, he buried her body at a spot behind a warehouse near Matigara Railgate; this is the same location from where Ankita’s body was recovered by the police. There’s a makeshift market for dried fish at this location; the entire area reeks of dried fish. Hussain knew that no one would notice a dead human rotting away beneath the soil in this area, due to the overpowering smell of the fish; hence he decided to bury Sucheta’s body there.

The police looked into old cases and discovered that a missing person report was indeed lodged by Sucheta’s family a few months ago. However, due to a lack of information and leads, no significant progress had been made on the matter.

On Monday afternoon, Matigara police visited the spot specified by the accused. At the same time, the victim’s family was informed and asked to come to the area to identify the body. The ground was dug up to recover the decaying body in the presence of the magistrate and the family. The mother of the deceased, also present at the location, broke down upon seeing the remains of her daughter. The remains have been sent for forensic examinations.

The harrowing details of both the murders prove that these spine-chilling crimes were executed in cold blood. Investigations are still underway, and the police are trying to determine if any accomplices may have assisted Mohammed Akhtar Hossain in killing these women, and if there is more to this string of murders. Could the well-established Islamic contempt for the lives of infidels have led to these poor women being treated in this way?
