Osama Bin Laden forbade children from joining Al Qaeda

In Pakistan, founder of notorious Jamaat-e-Islami, Abul Ala Moududi asked his children never to join the party as he knew, main objective of Jamaat was destruction and causing sufferings to the humanity. He also realized, the party he created was a Frankenstein. Similarly, Al Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden suggested his children never to step into the bloody path of the murderous jihadist outfit.

According to a newly published book, the infamous leader of Al Qaeda, who orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and series of cruel terrorist acts in the world did not want his children to join Al Qaeda. In a message, Osama Bin Laden told his children in a will that was written up as he fled Tora Bora in 2001, “I advise you not to work with Al Qaeda”.

In the book titled ‘The Rise and Fall of Osama bin Laden’, Peter Bergen said, in the will, Bin Laden also expressed gratitude to his wives for their support and pleaded with his children for their forgiveness for not giving them much of his time.

Defying Osama Bin Laden’s advice, one of his sons, Hamza became intricately involved with Al Qaeda and was eventually killed in a US operation which was confirmed by the Trump administration in 2019. Bin Laden had five wives and two dozen children. At the time of his death in 2011, a result of a Navy SEAL operation in Pakistan, bin Laden’s wives ranged in age from 28 to 62 and he had kids ranging in ages from three to 35.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, Al-Qaeda militants are joining the Taliban front lines in increasing numbers as the insurgents make gains across the country, the Afghan general leading the defence of Helmand’s capital has claimed.

The Sandhurst-trained commander of the Afghan army’s 215 Corps made the comments hours before urging residents of Lashkar Gah to evacuate their homes amid heavy fighting. The city, which was home to the UK’s headquarters during Britain’s eight-year Helmand campaign, has been under siege for months. In recent days it has been at risk of becoming the first significant Afghan city to fall to the militants’ latest offensive.

Gen Sadat said intelligence reports suggested about 60 al-Qaeda fighters had been killed in the latest conflict, alongside hundreds of Taliban forces.

Raffaello Pantucci, a terrorism expert with the Royal United Services Institute, said Gen Sadat’s comments echoed a concerted effort by Afghan leaders to “really hammer the point home that the fight they are fighting in Afghanistan is directly linked to the threat the West is facing”.

UN analysis released late last month said the terrorist network founded by Osama bin Laden was still present in the south and east of Afghanistan and “operates under Taliban protection from Kandahar, Helmand and Nimruz provinces”.

With the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan, there are disturbing news about increase of Al Qaeda activities in Pakistan. Security agencies in Pakistan claimed to have foiled a terror plot to attack government buildings in Lahore and arrested five terrorists belonging to Al Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during raids in Punjab province on August 5, 2021.

Commenting on this operation, counterterrorism experts say, Pakistani intelligence agency has always been patronizing terrorist groups including Al Qaeda, while TTP enjoys deeper relations with Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party. There is no reason to believe Pakistan as a country fighting terrorism. Instead, it has been one of the terror-patron nations.

It may be mentioned here that, Pakistan patronizes various jihadist groups in Kashmir while it also extends patronization to several terrorist and separatist groups inside India.
