Propagandists run vile media offensives against Narendra Modi

Meet Sumit Ganguly of Indiana University, Dorothy Chin of University of California, Elizabeth J King of University of Michigan, Elize Massard da Fonseca of Brazilian School of Public Administration, Salvador Vázquez del Mercado of Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas and Scott L. Greer of University of Michigan. In their eyes, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump are “world’s worst pandemic leaders”. While they have jointly authored an article in Australian publication The Conversation, Sumit Ganguly and Dorothy Chin have played the role in making vile attacks on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump, while others have joined the orchestrated propaganda by putting named of Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the list of five world leaders. In their eyes, Narendra Modi tops the list while Donald Trump ranks as the fourth “worst” leader.

Commenting about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Professor Sumit Ganguly wrote: India is the new epicenter of the global pandemic, recording some 400,000 new cases per day by May 2021. However grim, this statistic fails to capture the sheer horror unfolding there. COVID-19 patients are dying in hospitals because doctors have no oxygen to give and no lifesaving drugs like remdesivir. The sick are turned away from clinics that have no free beds.

Many Indians blame one man for the country’s tragedy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In January 2021, Modi declared at a global forum that India had “saved humanity … by containing corona effectively.” In March, his health minister proclaimed that the pandemic was reaching an “endgame.” COVID-19 was actually gaining strength in India and worldwide – but his government made no preparations for possible contingencies, such as the emergence of a deadlier and more contagious COVID-19 variant.

Even as significant pockets of the country had not fully suppressed the virus, Modi and other members of his party held jampacked outdoor campaign rallies before April elections. Few attendees wore masks. Modi also allowed a religious festival that draws millions to proceed from January to March. Public health officials now believe the festival may have been a superspreader event and was “an enormous mistake.”

As Modi touted his successes last year, India – the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer – sent over 10 million vaccine doses to neighboring countries. Yet just 1.9% of India’s 1.3 billion people had been fully inoculated against COVID-19 by early May.

Look into the language of Professor Sumit Ganguly, definitely a Bangali and most possibly a blind supporter of either Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress or Rahul Gandhi’s Indian National Congress. He wrote, “Many Indians blame one man for the country’s tragedy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi”. Isn’t it how the political opponents of Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party are spreading propaganda within and outside India? Another point here is – while these scholars have not left any stone unturned in ruthlessly vilifying Narendra Modi, Donald Trump and three more leaders, they did not utter a word about Iranian Hassan Rouhani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Argentine President  Italian President Alberto Ángel Fernández and Italian President Sergio Mattarella in the list. It seems as if the team and of course Mr. Ganguly was assigned to show Indian Prime Minister as the champion of the worst COVID leaders, clearly with a wrong agenda of annoying Indians against the ruling party and greatly tarnish India’s image in the world.

I always used to believe, Indians were great patriots and they never had allowed anyone in vilifying their country and the leaders in the global platform. But this is for the first time, we are witnessing the unhealthy rise of anti-Indian propaganda run by Indians themselves in the global platform, where for sure, some vested interest groups, including enemies of India might have been injecting huge amount of propaganda cash. Being a friendly neighbor of India, we certainly are shocked witnessing such sudden trend of extreme insanity.

However, this insanity does not represent the Indian people, but it is just a part of the anti-Modi bloc’s propaganda to tarnish India’s reputation worldwide. While the Indian National Congress was in power of decades, it could leave behind no legacy but that of corruption and autocracy. Seeing Narendra Modi’s emergence as one of the most popular and successful leaders of India, the INC is now left destitute of issues to use against BJP, and is using the pandemic to turn the people of India against Narendra Modi. In reality, if Congress were in power, India would have faced an even worse wave of pandemic, and Rahul Gandhi would have followed his grandmother and would have declared a State of Emergency to ‘contain’ the pandemic.
