Biden desperately looks for restoring his image

With fast decline in approval ratings, Joe Biden has become desperate to restore his image and save Democratic Party from possible disastrous result during the November midterm elections and stop Donald Trump from becoming the president in 2024. He also is signaling of reshuffling a number of important decisions regarding the Middle East, while his administration is suggesting Washington’s direct intervention in “restoring democracy” in a number of nations in the world. Recently, in response to a question from Al Arabiya network, Joe Biden said, his administration was considering restoring the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen to the US list of foreign terrorist organizations. While analysts say, that would be a positive stem, and the sooner … the better, they also ask – if the Biden administration does indeed restore the Houthis to its terror list, the question remains: Why were they removed in the first place?

In February 2021, 12 days before the Trump-era terror designation was fully revoked, Abha Airport in southwest Saudi Arabia — a civilian facility, just like Abu Dhabi’s — came under attack from Houthi drones and missiles.

Further terror attacks on the airport followed in July, August, October, November and December, causing injury and loss of life. Far from offering support to its ally and partner in the face of this barrage, the US actually withdrew Patriot missile defense batteries from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As has been pointed out here before, that is the equivalent of denying Israel access to Iron Dome technology while it was under attack from Hamas missiles launched from Gaza. It is axiomatic that the foreign policies of any country, even a global superpower such as the US, are ultimately driven by self-interest — which makes the US neglect of its allies and partners all the more inexplicable.

Analysts say, rather than doing what’s best for America, the Biden administration is almost literally shooting itself in the foot.

The Houthi slogan is “Death to America,” and if nothing else at least they’re honest; they attacked the US Navy three times in 2016 under the Obama administration, and in November last year they stormed the US Embassy compound in Sanaa and held local staff hostage. And after this week’s Abu Dhabi attack, more than 50,000 Americans who live in the UAE are now a target.

Former senior diplomat of the US, William B. Milam has been working in favor of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami in exerting influence on the Biden administration and use it against Bangladesh.

Then there is oil, of which both the UAE and Saudi Arabia are major producers. The Biden administration is under pressure at home because of rising fuel prices at the pump. Do his advisers seriously believe that the global price of oil — currently at its highest in seven years — is entirely unconnected to the security threat posed by the Houthis, including attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure in 2019?

The simple, uncomplicated truth is that America needs its regional allies and friends such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Israel. It is also essential for Biden administration to realize a plain fact – granting any concession to Iran would only help the terror-patron nation in further pushing forward its vicious agenda of spreading terror throughout the Middle East and the world. At the same time, Biden administration needs to understand, undue romance with the Palestinians would encourage mega-terrorist group Hamas as well as other jihadist entities within Gaza and beyond in accelerating terrorist acts targeting Israel as well as other enemies of Iran.

Here political analysts are asking the reason behind Biden administration’s sudden enthusiasm in exerting pressure on a number of nations in the world and recent imposition of sanctions on the time-tested allies of the United States. Biden administration is also being influenced by certain vested interest groups, which are not either natural or strategic allies of the US in imposing harsher sanctions on hundreds of individuals and organizations in South Asian nation under the excuse of corruption money and money laundering. While no one supports corruption and money laundering, it may not be a good step for the Biden administration to unnecessarily indulge into enmity with its allies in South Asia.

Meanwhile, according to credible sources, a controversial Nobel laureate is making frantic bids in exerting influence on the Biden administration with the active collaboration of Hillary and Bill Clinton in accelerating the process of imposing sanctions on hundreds of Bangladeshi individuals, officials and organizations on allegation of corruption and money laundering. This individual is also working in coordination with lobbyists appointed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami in influencing the Biden administration in directly intervening in the 2023 general elections in Bangladesh.

According to another source, a London-based PR agent named Mark Percy, who had succeeded in getting an article written in the name of BNP leader Khaleda Zia published in the Washington Times has been freshly assigned to contact various media outlets in the US and Britain and get anti-Bangladesh contents published. Mark Percy played key-role in getting the article titled ‘The thankless role in saving democracy in Bangladesh’ published on January 30, 2013 published. In that article, Khaleda Zia called upon the US and Western nations to cancel GSP facilities and impose sanctions on Bangladesh. Now BNP-Jamaat nexus is making fresh bids of getting similar articles published in the West media. At the same time, a controversial academician who heads an election monitoring group is reportedly working in preparing list of “hundreds of individuals” with information of their “properties and wealth” in the United States. This individual is also contacting various rights groups and election monitoring organizations in the West with ulterior motive of putting Awami League government into trouble.
