The fake victim of Tasneem Khalil’s bogus report, sacked military officer Hasinur Rahman is actually a monster, who is believed to have abducted around 34 people. During the 2018 road safety movement, Lt Col Hasinur Rahman came under the radar of law enforcement agencies as he spread rumors of murder and rape on social media with ulterior motive. He branded democracy as blasphemy and called for establishment of Caliphate through armed revolt. But, a pro-militancy Tasneem Khalil, who runs a controversial website named ‘Netra News’ with funding from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) falsely portrayed Hasinur Rahman as a victim of abduction. In the bogus report Hasinur made false and contradictory statements, with the agenda of gaining global sympathy for known militancy groups. The main purpose of the so-called investigative report of ‘Netra News’ and Tasneem Khalil gang was to use a pro-militancy sacked military officer, Hasinur Rahman and use his false and self-contradictory statements with the ulterior motive of getting public sympathy towards notorious actions of several militancy outfits.
Let us first look into the background of Hasinur Rahman.
Hasinur graduated from the 10th Long Course of Bangladesh Military Academy. His father late Habibur Rahman was president of Laksam Upazila Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). During the regime of Ziaur Rahman, he was the public prosecutor of Comilla Judge Court.
Hasinur’s paternal uncle Professor Nurur Rahman contested in second national election in Bangladesh as a candidate of BNP and became a Member of Parliament. In 2001, after BNP came to power, Hasinur Rahman was posted in a special force with the purpose of implementing agendas of pro-Islamist BNP. Until now, Hasinur Rahman has been dedicatedly serving the purpose of BNP and Islamist forces.
When BNP came to power in 2001, Hasinur played a major role in extrajudicial killing of political opponents of the party. Hasinur Rahman planned at least 34 extrajudicial killings till 2008 while serving in a special force in Chittagong. Hasinur was given the responsibility to eliminate several individuals permanently when it was felt necessary by the BNP high command.
He has been accused for his involvement in the murder of businessman Jamal Uddin of Chittagong district. Ahmad Ullah of Satkania fell victim of extrajudicial killing for leaving BNP and joining another political party. In a press conference on this issue, founding member of BNP and current leader of LDP, Oli Ahmed blamed Hasinur Rahman for the incident.
In 2007, Hasinur Rahman joined the banned pro-Caliphate militant group Hizb ut Tahrir. Besides, he was in regular contact with Harkat ul Jihad (HuJI)’s fugitive chief Maulana Yahya, Maulana Sheikh Farid and its commander Maulana Sabbir.
Hasinur reportedly maintained connections with separatist groups in other countries and provided them sensitive information centering military operations of Bangladesh Army. In addition to supplying weapons to local militancy outfits, Hasinur Rahman was also coordinating supply of weapons to several separatist groups in the neighboring countries.
In September 2010, Hasinur held several meetings with members of militancy outfits at a restaurant in Mascot Plaza, Uttara in Dhaka. During these meetings two representatives of a foreign spy agency which works against interest of Bangladesh were also present. Later, law enforcement agency arrested Hasinur Rahman on allegation of selling weapons to militancy and terrorist groups.
He was dismissed from the Bangladesh Army and sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement with banned militant organizations, separatist groups, anti-state activities and connections with foreign intelligence agencies. Hasinur was released after serving four years and three months in the sedition case.
A military court sentenced Hasinur Rahman to prison for his involvement in militant activities inside the Bangladesh Army.
It should be noted that no one was arrested for political reasons during Sheikh Hasina’s government. But Bahauddin Naseem and Chowdhury Maulana Matiur were accused of Mymensingh bombings during the BNP government even though Harkatul Jihad carried out the bombings. A report published in Daily Prothom Alo at that time said that the arrested had joined Harkatul Jihad from Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.
Following his release, Hasinur Rahman once again got involved in controversial activities. He began carrying pistol with ulterior motives. His pistol license was revoked due to the conviction and failure to renew the license.
Hasinur voluntarily went into hiding in 2018 to skip surveillance by law enforcement agencies after spreading rumors of disappearances, false propaganda and misinformation with the nefarious agenda of promoting extremist ideology during the road safety movement. His family staged a drama of disappearance by holding a press conference with the ulterior motive of spreading false propaganda of forced disappearance of Hasinur. In 2020, Hasinur Rahman voluntarily returned to his family. On his return, Hasinur’s wife admitted to the media that her husband’s body did not show any mark of injury or torture.
Hasinur Rahman was not politically influential. Many consider him as mentally unbalanced or a insane individual due to his profanity and inconsistent behavior. Still, some consider such acts of Hasinur as mere pretensions.
Hasinur Rahman has given provocative and controversial statements on social media, prompted by domestic and foreign vested interest groups. It is believed that he has once again tried to go viral in an anti-state video full of false and fabricated information called ‘Ayanaghar (Mirror)’. Will an informed public ever believe the lies of a controversial, treacherous and convicted criminal? It is our moral duty to reject and boycott them.
