Kamala Harris continues to sink from her hope

Kamala Harris is gradually sinking. Her ambition of becoming the “first female president of the US” has already turned into mission impossible. According to analysts, everything Harris has touched in the vice presidency has been a fiasco. She scrambled to backtrack when Biden made her the face of the administration’s border policy, ensnaring her in weeks of embarrassing efforts to answer when she would visit the border. Her lame excuse to NBC’s Lester Holt: “I haven’t been to Europe,” either.

Commenting on Kamala Harris, New York Post in its editorial wrote: “New York Post editorial wrote: Kamala Harris’ record so far has been so disastrous that top female allies held a “crisis dinner” last month to try to stop the bad p.r. Yet their problem isn’t the press; it’s Harris.

“As Axios reported, the dinner was meant to plan how to defend the veep and her chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, amid claims of a toxic office climate and what some say is sexism. It was organized by Kiki McLean, an adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton, and featured President Barack Obama’s former communications director Jennifer Palmieri, Harris confidante Minyon Moore, President Biden adviser Stephanie Cutter and Hillary Clinton spokeswomen Karen Finney and Adrienne Elrod.

“If these people want Harris to draw better press, there’s an obvious solution: Get her to do a better job. Her handling of the border crisis, her top-priority assignment, has been abysmal. Yeah, we know: She’s in a no-win situation since it was her boss, Biden, who created the crisis. But her (few) press appearances have only made her seem arrogant and otherwise useless on this issue.

“Nor can the media be blamed for her office’s dysfunction. Politico cited nearly two dozen current and former aides, administration officials and associates pointing the finger at the VP for a “chaotic” work environment.

Fact is, being called out for general incompetence isn’t “sexist” or the fault of biased press. If Harris & Co. want better p.r., she’ll have to earn it”.

On paper, Kamala Harris was a strong contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. Once the campaign started, she flip-flopped on health issues and couldn’t take a punch from Tulsi Gabbard. Harris flopped out of the race before the voting began. At the time, she was polling at 3 percent nationally and 7 percent in the Golden State.

Nominee Joe Biden got backed into putting her on the ticket even after she effectively called him a segregationist in a nationally televised debate. He had promised a female running mate. Then, after the George Floyd riots, he came under public pressure to pick a black woman.

Although section of the left-leaning media was enthusiastically projecting Kamala Harris as an asset for Biden-Harris administration, in reality she was hardly a big asset even on the campaign trail. According to media reports, Her convention speech was overshadowed by following Barack Obama’s speech the same night. In her debate with Mike Pence, she spread mistrust of the COVID vaccines; she was barely visible otherwise.

Kamala’s judgement is also terrible. During the hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, she was one of the senators who was pushing fraudulent Michael Avenatti’s lurid and swiftly discredited gang-rape fairytale, which had backfired on Democrats. But Harris seems to have no shame.

According to analysts, besides being bad at politics, she is bad at governing. In California, she pushed a policy to force nonprofit groups to turn over their donor lists to the state. She mishandled it so badly that the Supreme Court ruled against her after a vast array of her own political allies filed briefs saying that her policy had violated their First Amendment rights. Even the Biden administration’s legal brief threw her under the bus.

The latest news is that a group of high-powered Democratic women, led by a prominent public relations specialist, gathered over dinner to strategize how to rehabilitate the vice president’s public image. That is generally not a sign that things are going well.

Democrats in 2024 may have a Joe Biden problem. Biden has visibly slowed already, and he will be 82 by then. But they might prefer that to having a Kamala Harris problem on top of the ticket. No one knows what health condition Joe Biden may have by 2024 with his dementia issue gradually getting prominent. According to critics, Biden hardly can remember anything even now and no one knows how he is going to handle the day-to-day affairs of the US president until 2024.
