Democrats want to harass Elon Musk

Suddenly Senate Democrats are interested in fairness on social media after Elon Musk made a successful bid to purchase Twitter.

The billionaire has made it known that he does not approve of what the far left has done in silencing opposition and his intention is to change that.

Now Democrats in the Senate may drag him in and question what his intentions are with the social media giant.

Senate Commerce Chair Maria Cantwell said “We’re thinking about it,” when asked by Bloomberg News about questioning the Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink CEO.

The Washington state Democrat noted the committee has previously had hearings with former Twitter Inc. Chief executive Jack Dorsey, Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai. They were questioned about a decades-old legal shield that protects social media companies from liability for user-generated content posted on their sites, commonly referred to as Section 230.

The Tesla Inc. CEO earlier this week agreed to buy Twitter in one of the biggest leveraged buyout deals in history. The move was cheered by many Republicans who contend conservative views are censored. Democrats raised concerns that Musk, the world’s richest person, would loosen restrictions that are aimed at preventing the spread of disinformation.

Musk didn’t respond to a request for comment on his willingness to testify. Twitter declined to comment.

“It’s a technology which is central to democracy and our economy and it is important for the representatives of the American people to hear what the new owners intend on using that technology to accomplish,” Massachusetts Democrat Senator Ed Markey said. “We have to understand the censorship or lack thereof, content moderation or not, that is going to be the policy for the new owner.”

“In terms of what the values are that this company is going to be creating for the new Elon Musk Twitter world, I think that’s actually a necessary role for Congress to play,” he said.

Democrat Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal said that Musk should tell Congress what his plans are for Twitter.

“There is a powerful imperative to ask him to tell Congress and the American people how he’s going to address the concerns that we’ve raised,” he said.

On Friday the billionaire, who just had his bid to purchase Twitter accepted by its board of directors, sent a tweet that shook liberals.

“The far left hates everyone, themselves included!” he tweeted. He later followed that with another tweet giving a tepid condemnation of the “far right.”

“But I’m no fan of the far right either. Let’s have less hate and more love,” he said.

It came after a tweet he sent on Thursday where he showed himself becoming more right leaning.

The tweet was a drawing of stick figures. One representing a liberal, another representing a conservative, and one representing Musk.

The meme shows him in 2008 being left of center and the liberal with a caption that said “my fellow liberal.”

On the next line it shows 2012 and Musk is in the same place, but as the sides get more extreme and the center moves Musk is now only slightly to the left of center and the liberal is now further away with the caption “my fellow liberal?” this time posed as a question.

By the line that shows 2021 it shows the center moving far to the left and Musk now being closer to the conservative and on the right of center with the liberal now labeled as a “’woke’ progressive’ and calling him a “bigot.”

Liberal Nina Turner responded by showing some statistics.

“2012 Minimum wage: $7.25/hr Elon’s net worth: $2 billion,” she said. “2021 Minimum wage: $7.25/hr Elon’s net worth: $277 billion.”
