Bequia Beach Hotel offers ultimate in luxury seclusion

Known as the Caribbean’s best-kept secret, the petite island of Bequia is a remote and paradisiacal destination stretching just seven square miles. Bequia Beach Hotel, which sits on the pristine sands of Friendship Bay, is a family-owned and operated hotel that combines luxury, elegance and charm with a laid-back vibe.

The hotel’s owner, Bengt Mortstedt, is an accidental hotelier. Having first discovered the island in 1992, he returned a few years later looking for a place in which to retire and came across a closed B&B with a ‘for sale’ sign.

He didn’t retire, and instead opened Bequia Beach Hotel in 2009.

To this day, Mortstedt’s devotion to the island and its people is apparent throughout the property and he now runs the hotel with his son, Philip.

With just 57 rooms set within nine acres of lush tropical gardens, Bequia Beach Hotel offers complete privacy and seclusion. Guests retreat to their elegant rooms, which include Beachfront Suites, Pool Villas and the impressive Estate Villa and evoke a charming vintage, Fifties retro feel – a welcome reflection of a simpler time while also offering all the comforts expected by discerning travellers.

Meanwhile, perfect for large families or groups of friends are the two new, ultra-luxe villas, Grenadine Hills. Boasting soaring views across to Mustique, contemporary design and extensive indoor and outdoor living areas, complete with stunning infinity pools, these villas offer an unrivalled level of luxury and privacy.

Bequia Beach Hotel offers three dining experiences. Bagatelle is the signature restaurant, located on Friendship Beach. Offering sweeping vistas, Bagatelle’s open beachside verandas are a favourite among guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The menu showcases internationally inspired cuisine with Caribbean influences. Live music and entertainment create a vibrant atmosphere to dance the night away Caribbean-beach-party style. During the season, Blue Tropic, nestled on a hill within the gardens, serves an Italian-styled menu.

Famous for its fried chicken and tempura okra, Jack’s Beach Bar is located on Princess Margaret Beach. With a bohemian beach-chic charm, Jack’s serves expertly crafted cocktails and an array of dishes, including a catch of the day.

Guests of Bequia Beach Hotel can now fly privately from Barbados or St Lucia to the island. The hotel has launched an exclusive partnership with Bequia Air, ensuring a seamless transfer.

The flight is part of the hotel’s VIP Transfer add-on package and is available only to guests. For those who have missed the seascape isolation and salty air that only a luxury yacht provides, guests can charter the hotel’s private yacht, Star of the Sea, for the day or week.

This Benetti yacht provides the ultimate romantic setting for guests to indulge in sundowners as they journey around Bequia’s enchanting coastline.

Guests can also spend their days discovering the chicest, most secluded Caribbean islands, including Mustique, Canouan and Tobago Cays.
