Canadian minister refers to Taliban jihadists as ‘our brothers’

While the entire world is against radical Islamic militancy and jihadist forces such as Al Qaeda, Islamic State (Daesh), Taliban etcetera, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minister for women and gender equality, Maryam Monsef refers to the Taliban [read also Islamist jihadists] as “our brothers”.

Monsef, a member of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party, was frequently touted as Canada’s first Afghan-born member of Parliament until she conceded she was actually born in Iran, CTV News reported in 2016.

In a recent virtual news conference, Maryam Monsef referred to the Taliban as “our brothers” and said: “I want to take this opportunity to speak to our brothers, the Taliban. We call on you to ensure the safe and secure passage of any individual in Afghanistan out of the country.

“We call on you to immediately stop the violence, the genocide, the femicide, the destruction of infrastructure, including heritage buildings. We call on you to immediately return to the peacekeeping table, to the peace deal that was negotiated, and to ensure that women and minority voices are a part of that discussion in a meaningful way”.

Commenting on Monsef’s statement, Christine Douglass-Williams wrote in Jihad Watch blog:

“Our brothers?” Whose “brothers” exactly is Monsef referring to? As an elected representative, who once served as Minister for Democratic Institutions as well, Monsef is responsible for answering questions, yet she will not do so and likely could never answer honestly. So now she has opted to insult the intelligence of Canadians by attempting to explain away her reference to “our brothers” the Taliban as a “cultural” reference. I personally know many Iranian dissidents (Monsef was born in Iran to Afghan parents) who would never reference the Taliban as “our brothers.” So it depends on which “culture” Monsef is referring to. Could it be the culture of jihad?

To reference a group as “our brothers” implies cohesion and approval. Support for the Taliban has come from mainstream Islamic countries including Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran, and from Hamas as well. Perhaps those are the “cultures” Monsef was referring to. When such brotherly cohesion is intimated by a Canadian politician, there is cause for alarm.

Monsef knows full well what the Taliban represents for women and gender rights, which she has the responsibility to represent in Canada. The Taliban’s regulations for women will send chills down your spine. They include:

Killing women for not wearing a burqa,

Gouging out the eyes of a pregnant woman because she had a job,

Setting a woman on fire for “bad cooking,”

Going door-to-door, forcibly marrying girls as young as 12, and forcing them into sex slavery.

This is not the first time Monsef has been in the headlines. She came to Canada on the pretext that she was an Afghanistan-born refugee. It turned out that her birthplace was Iran. Despite speculation that she could be stripped of her citizenship, Maryam Monsef remains a Liberal government representative. This is a government that will investigate and punish you for publicly criticizing Islam and the far-reaching human rights abuses committed by jihadists against innocent people. She finally came up with a story about “believing” she was born in Afghanistan, saying that both her parents are Afghans.

Monsef’s comments come as US-allied countries grapple with trying to get evacuees out of Afghanistan following President Biden’s troop withdrawal that led to the Taliban’s rapid takeover of the country.

Meanwhile, analysts say, given the history of the Taliban, which Monsef must know and most other people know all too well, is there really any possibility that anyone believes that the Taliban would agree to Monsef’s demands? This is just empty grandstanding.

It may be mentioned here that, in 2016, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited a gender-segregated mosque whose imam is a member of a group considered a terrorist organization abroad. Following the publication of this story, journalist Anthony Furey was contacted at home by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).  He was pressured to withdraw the story, despite PMO’s inability to point out a single error. Furey was then called Islamophobic by the PMO and told he was “irresponsible”.

It is well anticipated that influential members in Justin Trudeau’s government such as Maryam Monsef will make best efforts in welcoming Afghan refugees, including members of Al Qaeda and the Taliban with arms widely open, because Monsef and many others in the Canadian government consider those monstrous radical Islamic militants as “brothers”.
