Iran on February 2, 2019 unveiled its new, long-range cruise missile named Hoveizeh, named after a city on the Iran-Iraq border. According to Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami, who spoke at the ceremony, “The range of Hoveizeh missile is over 840 miles and it is good for targeting ground targets.”

It just so happens that 840 miles is the approximate distance from Hoveizeh to Tel Aviv.

According to the official Farse news agency, Hatami boasted the main features of the new missile, being rapid reaction, low flight altitude, high precision in navigation and high destruction power.

“Hoveizeh ground-to-ground cruise missile has been test-fired in a 745 mile range and it managed to hit the specified target precisely,” Hatami said, adding that the missile will increase Iran’s deterrence.

The missile is due to be delivered to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force.

Iranian officials have been repeating the message that the US sanctions have failed to force Tehran to terminate its missile program.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani last month stressed: “We have said […] that we would not compromise at all about our country’s defense issues and will not allow others to interfere in it.”
