Kamala Harris wants war in Europe

It’s been over 70 years, and through those 70 years … there has been peace and security. We are talking about the real possibility of war in Europe. Writes Martin Walsh

Vice President Kamala Harris gave a bizarre response when asked about the possibility of Russia invading Ukraine.

While speaking to reporters at the annual Munich Security Conference before returning to Washington, D.C., Harris spoke about Russia-Ukraine tensions.

“We’re talking about the potential for war in Europe. I mean, let’s really take a moment to understand the significance of what we’re talking about,” Harris told reporters.

“It’s been over 70 years, and through those 70 years … there has been peace and security,” Harris said. “We are talking about the real possibility of war in Europe.”

A reporter asked Harris what a Putin invasion would actually mean for Americans.

“Can you explain to Americans what exactly they will face” if Putin invades Ukraine?

Harris responded with a word salad.

“When America stands for her principles and all of the things we hold dear, um, it requires sometimes for us to put ourselves out there in a way that, maybe, we will incur some costs,” Harris said.

The game of chicken between the United States and Russia, with Ukraine sitting in the middle, has just gotten more intense.

The United States has intelligence that says Russian troops have been given orders to invade Ukraine, CBS News reported.

The U.S. has intelligence that Russian commanders have received orders to proceed with an invasion of Ukraine, with commanders on the ground making specific plans for how they would maneuver in their sectors of the battlefield, a U.S. official told CBS News.

The orders don’t mean an invasion is a certainty, as Russian President Vladimir Putin could still change the orders if he changes his mind, the official said.

“The President was very clear that he is convinced by U.S. intelligence that this invasion will happen, that President Putin decided to do it,” CBS News “Face The Nation” host Margaret Brennan said to  CBS News correspondent David Martin. “How was he that certain?”

“Because the intelligence says that Russian troops have actually received orders now, to proceed with the invasion,” he responded. “So not only are they moving up closer and closer to the border into these attack positions, but the commanders on the ground are making specific plans for how they would maneuver in their sector of the battlefield.”

“They’re doing everything that American commanders would do once they got the order to proceed,” he said.

The United States embassy in Russia has advised Americans to have an evacuation plan, citing a threat from Moscow, Reuters reported.

“According to media sources, there have been threats of attacks against shopping centers, railway and metro stations, and other public gathering places in major urban areas, including Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as in areas of heightened tension along the Russian border with Ukraine,” the embassy said in an alert to United States citizens.

Citizens were advised to “Monitor local and international media for updates avoid crowds, notify friends and family of your safety, be aware of your surroundings, stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners, review your personal security plans, carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Russian visa and have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance.”

Maria Zakharova, Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, asked if the United States had informed Moscow of the potential attacks, and “And if not, how is one to understand all of this?” she said.

Meanwhile, the Russian ambassador to the United States appeared on the same show and said that there are no plans for an invasion.

“I’ll get right to it. President Biden says that President Putin has decided to invade Ukraine. Is he correct?” the host said.

“You’ll say that it’s very difficult to correct your president. I do not want to be involved in any discussions in your country. I just would like to express our position. If you don’t mind, I will start with basic things. There is no invasion and there are no such plans,” ambassador Anatoly Antonov said.

“It was fixed in Russian documents that we conveyed to our American friends in the State Department. Russia has publicly decided- declared its readiness to continue the diplomatic efforts to resolve all outstanding issues,” he said.

“By the way, I would like to say a few things. Each state has a right to protect its boundary and border. The Russian Federation, the United States, as well as any state, has such a right. It’s no exception. Russian troops are on sovereign Russian territory. We don’t threaten anyone. Why do you- why do other countries try to impose their decisions on us? Where can we deploy our troops and how many? I would like to emphasize once again that this is our own territory. Can you even imagine that Russia will impose on the United States not to deploy your forces in Florida or in San Francisco?” he argued.
